SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) reinforces its commitment in championing regional pride and progress by celebrating Iloilo’s rich cultural and culinary legacy through Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo.

As the Philippines’ first UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, Iloilo continues to gain national and international momentum as it takes center stage through two landmark initiatives: the launch of the “Beyond the Plate” program and the “Kusina de Ilonggo: Mga Panubli Nga Sabor.” These efforts reflect SM Hotels’ broader vision of driving innovation while championing local identity among its properties across the region.

“At SM Hotels, our success grows with the communities we serve,” said SMHCC Vice President for Quality and Sustainability Leah Magallanes. “Through Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo, we proudly stand as a tourism partner in celebrating heritage, empowering local talent, and opening doors to authentic Filipino experiences.”

At the heart of this culinary showcase is Ani Restaurant, where the “Kusina de Ilonggo: Mga Panubli Nga Sabor” transforms every meal into a cultural journey. Inspired by heirloom recipes and the culinary traditions of distinguished Ilonggo families, each curated menu brings time-honored flavors to life, while bridging generations and introducing Iloilo’s gastronomic story to a wider audience.

Recognized by UNESCO as a best practice, “Beyond the Plate” underscores SMHCC’s advocacy to sustainable tourism. In collaboration with the Iloilo MICE Center, the initiative invests in skills development and professional growth for local talent to ensure that the community flourishes alongside the region’s expanding tourism landscape. In particular, through the “Beyond the Plate” program, journalists and vloggers are given the opportunity to elevate their craft through specialized training in food and wine storytelling. The initiative responds to the increasing demand from MICE groups and visiting delegations for more informed culinary coverage, in order to provide media practitioners with the skills they need to remain competitive and relevant in today’s dynamic content landscape.

The program was led by a stellar roster of master teachers drawn from the fields of culture, hospitality, culinary arts, and digital storytelling.

SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) was conferred the “2025 World’s Leading Sustainable Circular Economy” at the prestigious World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards in Dubai for its “Plate for the Planet” program.

The said awards aim at recognizing, celebrating, and sharing game-changer stories of both individuals and organizations that make an indelible impact and contribution in sustainable travel and tourism. All submissions were meticulously screened by Sustainable Business students at Nova Business School and reviewed by the Advisory Board.

“Plate for the Planet” seeks to expand healthy and environment-friendly dining options, directed towards reducing dining wastes and mitigating GHG emissions in the food service industry. “Through the program, SMHCC endeavors to halve per capita global food waste at both the consumer and production levels, while greening supply chains and maintaining the food waste per cover, below industry levels as part of our decarbonization plans,” said SMHCC Vice President for Quality and Sustainability Leah Magallanes.

The program is part of SMHCC’s Sustainable Diner Program where every item on the menu is carefully curated, featuring locally sourced and hotel harvested ingredients. This initiative is a testament of SMHCC’s commitment to circular economy in its operations. Food waste is managed through traditional composting of layering with bacteria and the more modern way of using a bio digester. “Compost is then used as fertilizer in our gardens and partner farms, while the harvested herbs, vegetables, and fruits are used by our chefs to prepare a delicious dish – a ‘Plate for the Planet’. As such, we have partnered up with SM Foundation farmers through their Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan (KSK) program for our composting and gardening efforts,” adds Magallanes.

In particular, “Plate for the Planet” advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) on Responsible Consumption and Production, reinforcing the company’s thrust on global sustainability standards. This strategic direction is systematically implemented across all SMHCC properties, integrating responsible practices into daily hotel operations. Dedicated Sustainability Champions at each property ensure these initiatives are actively upheld, measured, and continuously strengthened.

This global recognition affirms SMHCC’s leadership in driving circular innovation within the hospitality industry, proving that sustainability and exceptional guest experiences can go hand in hand. As the company continues to elevate its environmental commitment across all properties, it remains steadfast in shaping a future where every stay and every plate contribute to a more sustainable world.

SMX Convention Center Aura plays a vital role in enabling “Alice Saves Wonderland’s” immersive magic experience to come alive in Manila. International creative technology leaders SparksLab Technology and FrameMotion Studio bring “Alice Saves Wonderland” to the Philippines, unveiling a spellbinding interaction that transforms storytelling into something audiences don’t just watch—but fully enter. Through its adaptable spaces, robust technical infrastructure, and experienced on-ground team, SMX Convention Center Aura enables the seamless integration of advanced technologies, including projection mapping, motion sensors, spatial audio, artificial intelligence, and interactive 3D environments.

More than a venue, SMX becomes the canvas—shifting, responding, and transforming to support storytelling at scale. The collaboration illustrates how immersive creators and purpose-built event spaces can work together to redefine what exhibitions and live experiences can be. “This partnership reflects where the future of events is headed,” shared Walid Wafik, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation’s (SMHCC) Senior Vice President for Operations. “When content, technology, and venue design align, experiences move beyond being hosted—they are truly lived.”

The Philippines’ biggest SMX Convention Center is set to open in Cebu in Q3 2026.

Located at the Cebu South Coastal Road, the Php3.3 billion landmark project of SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) will offer over 21,000 sq.m. of leasable event space setting a new benchmark for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities in the country.

With scalable halls, professional support services, and world-class amenities, the venue will provide organizers the capacity, flexibility, and convenience needed to mount world-class events up to 18,000 delegates.

“Cebu has always been one of the most in-demand destinations for events, and we are proud to finally bring SMX’s trusted brand of service to this dynamic market. It’s the culmination of more than two decades of experience in delivering professional and high-impact events,” said Walid Wafik, Senior Vice President-Operations of SMHCC.

Internationally recognized as the premier convention center in the Philippines, SMX has earned a reputation for delivering professionally managed spaces tailored to the diverse needs of large-scale exhibitions, conferences, corporate events, and celebrations.

The SMX Convention Center will rise beside the SM Seaside City Cebu offering direct connectivity to major lifestyle, retail, and hospitality hubs, as well as convenient access to key infrastructure such as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

It will form part of a carefully master-planned development that includes a 300-room Park Inn Hotel, a 200-room Radisson Hotel and the 16,000-seating capacity SM Seaside Arena, reinforcing Cebu as a complete, integrated MICE and entertainment destination.

“This is our response to the long-standing demand for a convention venue of this scale in Cebu. Soon, Cebuanos and visiting delegates alike will no longer need to fly to Manila for major exhibitions, summits, or concerts—the experience will be right here,” adds Wafik.

Park Inn by Radisson Clark, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation’s (SMHCC) renowned property in Central Luzon, has been conferred a Special Award for Innovative Use of Technology at the 5th Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards organized by the Department of Energy (DOE). This distinction underscores the hotel’s exemplary Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) initiatives and its successful adoption of advanced systems that deliver measurable energy savings and environmental benefits.

The award recognizes the hotel’s success in reducing energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable and enjoyable experience for guests. Through the use of a smart system design and shared cooling infrastructure, Park Inn by Radisson Clark has demonstrated how innovation can support both environmental goals and operational efficiency.

From left: SM Offices Vice President and Head Alexis Ortiga, SM Engineering Design and Development (SMEDD) Assistant Vice President for Mall Operations Charles Singson, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) Senior Vice President for Project Management and Technical Support Services Eric Uy, DOE Undersecretary Mario C.

Park Inn by Radisson Clark congratulatory material

Particularly, one of the key initiatives behind the recognition is the hotel’s use of an offsite cooling system that supplies chilled water from a nearby central plant. This approach allows the hotel to operate efficiently without its own chiller equipment, resulting in lower energy use, stable indoor temperatures, and reliable operations with minimal maintenance requirements.

Consequently, the hotel has achieved meaningful environmental benefits by integrating energy-efficient cooling components such as constant flow valves into its air-conditioning system. These improvements generate an annual energy savings of over 240,000 kilowatt-hours, helping prevent approximately 174 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.

Park Inn by Radisson Clark facade

“This award reflects our commitment to integrating sustainability into the core of our developments,” said Eric Uy, SMHCC Senior Vice President for Project Management and Technical Support Services. “The success of Park Inn by Radisson Clark illustrates that leveraging on shared infrastructure and modern technology can produce tangible energy savings, measurable operational efficiency, and long-term environmental value for the hospitality industry. At the onset, Park Inn by Radisson Clark was built with these in mind. The property was not just retrofitted for the sake of the award,” Uy added.

These reductions significantly contribute to SMHCC’s Road to Net Zero by 2040, positioning Park Inn by Radisson Clark as a model for energy-efficient hotel operations in the Philippines.

SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) continues to grow at an exponential rate as it held the groundbreaking of Park Inn by Radisson SM City Dasmariñas, the newest addition to its growing hospitality portfolio in partnership with Radisson Hotel Group (RHG). This milestone underscores SMHCC’s thrust in building well-designed hotels that are ready for the future and can handle the country’s quickly developing travel, meetings, and events industry.

Set to open in the fourth quarter of 2027, it has easy access to SM City Dasmariñas, a large retail hub in Cavite. The hotel features 148 guestrooms, one suite, and a fitness center all thoughtfully designed to accommodate the demands of both business and leisure travelers alike. The hotel’s all-day dining restaurant spans 332.81 sq.m. and can seat up to 70 to 78 guests. Catering to meetings, events, and intimate celebrations, the property offers two function rooms with a combined area of nearly 240 sq.m., complemented by three meeting rooms totaling close to 161 sq.m. These flexible venues reinforce the hotel’s position as a preferred destination for corporate gatherings and social occasions in the area.

The groundbreaking of Park Inn by Radisson SM City Dasmariñas follows SMHCC’s recent announcement of three new hotel developments in the Philippines, further highlighting the company’s rapid and strategic expansion.

Groundbreaking ceremony led by (from left): SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) Senior Vice President for Operations Cathy Nepomuceno, SMHCC Senior Vice President for Project Management and Technical Support Services Eric Uy, Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Austria-Barzaga, SMHCC Executive Vice President Peggy Angeles, and SMHCC Vice President for Business Development Neil Rumbaoa.

At the heart of the 67-hectare SM Mall of Asia Complex, SMHCC and Radisson Hotel Group jointly introduce a landmark dual-brand hospitality hub, bringing together a multitude of hotel brands under one address by 2031. Radisson Hotel SM Mall of Asia Manila features 200 rooms, including 49 suites and a presidential suite. Guests can look forward to refined social spaces, including a lobby lounge bar, a specialty rooftop bar and restaurant of approximately 160 sq.m., and a pool bar. The hotel will anchor one of the most compelling meetings and events offerings in the country, with 3,486 sq.m. of total event space, highlighted by a 2,160-sq.m. ballroom, alongside an executive lounge. Wellness and family-friendly amenities include a gym, an outdoor swimming pool, and an outdoor kids’ pool.

Complementing this upscale offering, Park Inn by Radisson SM Mall of Asia Manila will add 300 rooms, including 45 suites, delivering a seamless midscale option within the same precinct. Facilities include a coffee bar, pool bar, gym, outdoor swimming pool, and outdoor kids’ pool. The surrounding district is home to one of the world’s largest retail destinations, the SM Mall of Asia Arena, the SMX Convention Center Manila, and the upcoming SMXCITE (SMX Center for International Trade and Exhibitions), estimated to open by 2027 and expected to host up to 20,000 attendees, further driving demand for accommodations and flexible event spaces.

Further south, Park Inn by Radisson SM City Santa Rosa, slated to open in 2029, introduces 200 rooms, including 25 suites, to the fast-growing city center of Santa Rosa, approximately 45 minutes from Manila. The hotel features three food and beverage outlets, modern meetings and events facilities, and a comprehensive leisure offering that includes a gym, outdoor swimming pool, outdoor kids’ pool, and outdoor play areas.

SMHCC Executive Vice President Peggy E. Angeles said, “With the [groundbreaking] of Park Inn by Radisson SM City Dasmariñas and a robust pipeline of developments across key growth corridors, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation continues to strengthen its position as a leading force in Philippine hospitality that delivers scale, diversity, and long-term value through strategic partnerships and visionary developments. Our strategy rests on creating well-thought-out hotels for business, meetings, and leisure, spanning major hubs like Santa Rosa and Mall of Asia, as well as new locations like Dasmariñas. This steady progress demonstrates our unwavering dedication in providing top-notch hospitality developments that boost regional economies and improve visitor experiences around the country.

In a landmark celebration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) this year, Taal Vista Hotel, one of the Philippines’ most iconic heritage icons, was conferred as a UN Peace Center and Global Citizens Hub, solidifying its role as a beacon for culture, sustainability, and community-based peace initiatives.

The conferment on October 21, led by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), a civic partner of the UN, which was founded to promote peace, education, and diplomacy, and the United Network of Global Citizens (UNGC), in partnership with SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), carries the theme “Building the Future Together.”

In her welcome message, Cathy Nepomuceno, SMHCC Senior Vice President said, “As a company rooted in the principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and nation-building, SMHCC stands in solidarity with the vision and values championed by the United Nations. We take great pride in Taal Vista Hotel’s legacy, which now serves as a hub for meaningful dialogue, education, collaboration, and purposeful action.”

“By anchoring a Peace Center in a Filipino heritage landmark like Taal Vista, we declare that peace is not built in conference halls alone—it begins where history, culture, and community meet. UN’s sustainable goals are not just policies; they are a living promise to humanity,” UNGC Founder and President Jenny Pearl Ninalga stressed during the event.

Roderick “Ric” Cruz, Global President, United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNA Phils), spearheaded the formal turn over and raising of the UN flag during the conferment rites.

He reminded the audience that “a UN Flag hoisted on our soil reminds us of our collective commitment to peace — because no matter which country we come from, we are united under one flag, the flag of the United Nations.”

“The hoisting of the United Nations Flag today is more than ceremony — it is a declaration of shared purpose — the Philippines, being one of the original signatories of the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” he said.

Cruz further noted that “a UN Flag gives weight to the place where it is hoisted — and when we name a ballroom or a hall as a Peace Center, we do not just assign a title, we give meaning and mission to that space.”

In her acceptance speech, Brenda Cabuyao, Taal Vista Hotel Director of Operations, said: “We envision Taal Vista Hotel as a place where meaningful conversations are sparked, where culture and community find harmony, and where every guest is reminded that peace is not just an aspiration — it is an action, lived and shared.”
