The teams from Pico de Loro Beach & Country Club, Pico Sands Hotel, and Costa del Hamilo Incorporated (CDHI) led an initiative for marine conservation by releasing 117 endangered olive ridley sea turtle hatchlings at Pico Beach. This initiative highlights the vital role of conservation efforts in protecting marine biodiversity and ensuring a balanced ecosystem.

The activity occurred under favorable weather conditions to ensure the safety of the hatchlings, minimizing exposure to predators. “Pico de Loro Cove is committed to safeguarding the sea turtles and their nesting habitats along the shores to ensure that we commence the proper life cycle process for them.” emphasized RJ Balbuena, Sports and Recreation Manager. Olive ridley sea turtles play an essential role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems by controlling jellyfish populations and contributing to the overall health of the ocean. However, these turtles face numerous threats, including habitat destruction, poaching, accidental capture in fishing nets, and climate change. Their classification as vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) highlights the urgency of taking action to protect them.
Maxi Gavino, General Manager of Pico de Loro Beach & Country Club and Pico Sands Hotel, shared the collective responsibility to protect marine life, recognizing the value of community involvement in safeguarding endangered species. Their collaborative efforts, as highlighted in the release, serve as an example to other communities and inspire greater global awareness and action toward environmental sustainability. Through continued advocacy, education, and cooperation, Pico de Loro Cove is making strides in not only protecting sea turtles but also fostering a movement for a cleaner, healthier ocean for future generations.

The management is dedicated to sustaining initiatives that promote marine conservation and raise public awareness about its significance. This activity serves as an example for other communities to enhance their conservation practices and contribute to the global mission of preserving marine life for future generations. By reinforcing the importance of biodiversity and environmental stewardship, this initiative inspires a collective movement toward protecting our oceans and the creatures that call them home.
