BATANES TATTUS TRAVEL AND TOURS
CRAFTING THE VACATION OF A LIFETIME FOR LOCAL AND FOREIGN TRAVELERS ALIKE

By Ma. Carmela S. Glorioso
For many of us, Batanes is one of the country’s most picture-perfect destinations located at the northern tip of the Philippines. Its lush green landscapes, clear waters, rolling hills, and rugged cliffs are some of the stunning views that make anyone who experiences them up close find it hard not to want to return.

Additionally, Batanes offers a peaceful and untouched haven where time seems to stand still, making it an ideal spot for those seeking to relax and appreciate nature’s beauty.
Some may find going to Batanes a challenge, given its remote location, and just thinking of having to explore the island on their own leads them to either reconsider flying to Batanes or completely ditch the plan and go somewhere else instead.
The best way to explore Batanes is by joining North Batan, South Batan, Sabtang, and a side trip to Itbayat Island tours via Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours, owned and operated by Darrel Merk F. Cantor.
“Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours offers authentic Ivatan experiences. Our guests don’t just see the sights — they connect with the stories, traditions, and warm hospitality that define our islands. Every itinerary is carefully crafted, highlighting not only the famous landmarks but also hidden gems known only to locals,” says Cantor, a proud local Ivatan.
“Our mission is to share the beauty of our home while preserving its culture and protecting its environment. Every tour we create is not just about sightseeing — it’s about connection: to the land, the people, and the stories that make Batanes unlike anywhere else in the world,” he adds.

CEO of Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours
DOT-accredited travel agency
Cantor established the agency on August 16, 2015, with only P5,000 capital and a laptop in the hopes of making his dream a reality – to promote the beauty of Batanes and share the genuine Ivatan experience with travelers.
Apart from his hard work and perseverance, customer satisfaction became word of mouth, which paved the way for the travel and tours agency to get an accreditation from the Department of Tourism (DOT) in 2016, marking a major milestone for the business.
“The early years were filled with challenges, but I never gave up.

With the encouragement of fellow Ivatan tour guides, drivers, and the unwavering support and understanding of my family and relatives, I remained inspired to keep going. Over time, we expanded — hiring staff, renovating our office, and acquiring our own vans to better serve our guests,” says Cantor.
At present, Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours stands strong, built on passion, hard work, and genuine Ivatan hospitality. It continues to grow and serve with pride, sharing the timeless beauty and culture of Batanes with travelers from all over the world.
Batanes is a feeling
Cantor firmly believes that Batanes is not just a destination but “it’s a feeling.” The first time he experienced the charm of the rolling hills, the uniqueness of stone houses, and the sight of endless meetings of sky and sea, he felt the place as truly extraordinary.
“The warmth of the Ivatan people, their honesty, simplicity, and deep respect for nature — these are things that touch your soul. We started Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours because we wanted others to experience that same magic — to see the breathtaking landscapes, feel the peaceful rhythm of island life, and understand what it means to fall in love with Batanes.
“We also take pride in our strong partnerships with Aerospeed Air Transport Services, DOT-accredited guides, trusted accommodations, and dedicated local drivers — ensuring safety, comfort, and seamless service from arrival to departure.”

Best time to visit Batanes
Cantor affirms that Batanes is beautiful all-year round, but its peak seasons are usually during the dry months from March to June when the weather is warm, skies are clear, and landscapes are lush and green. This is the best time for sightseeing, island-hopping, and photography. Most tourists visit during Holy Week, graduation breaks, and summer vacations.
The months of July, August, September, and October are known as the Off-Peak or Rainy Season. Although the weather during these months can be unpredictable, they are perfect for guests to enjoy quieter surroundings and lower rates. Thus, these are also the months that are great for solo travelers and photographers.
December to February is the so-called “Cool Season,” which is perfect for travelers who love the cold, breezy weather. It’s like experiencing “Batanes winter.”
“Whether you visit in the warmth of summer or the cool winds of the year’s end, Batanes has its own charm in every season,” assures Cantor.
New tourist attractions and activities
Guests can look forward to making their Batanes trip extra memorable as there will be a new attraction coming soon exclusively with Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours.
“We’re excited to introduce our Private Tour at the Japanese Tunnel in Chatuan Area, located at the privately owned property with a 360-degree view of North and South Batan. And that’s just the beginning. We have many more exciting attractions coming soon, available only through Batanes Tattus Travel and Tours.”
