Conrad Manila presents a solo exhibit entitled “Woman in Progress” by female artist Kara Pangilinan. This is the 34th edition of the hotel’s Of Art and Wine series, featuring 29 artworks that highlight the transitions in her art journey and how she herself is a work in progress, like everyone else.
Kara Pangilinan’s art is rooted in human emotions and experiences, which is conveyed through the lines and patterns of her linescapes, lace, leaves, and ladies. This latest collection showcases intricately detailed art pieces that evoke a sense of being a work in progress—an intentional expression by the artist, inviting viewers into her creative journey.
The artist notes, “We are meant to continually evolve. Through my paintings, I intend to emphasize that we can embrace every version of ourselves and be the multi-faceted, dynamic beings we are all meant to be. Every stroke and every line on each piece allowed me to breathe a little bit deeper and feel a little bit more at peace, and I hope that is what guests and viewers feel when they see the paintings.”
“Woman in Progress” is open to the public starting March 12 until May 10, 2025, at the hotel’s Gallery C. About The Artist
Kara Pangilinan
Kara Pangilinan is a visual artist who captures human emotions through the intricate lines and patterns of her work. She describes her style as “elaborate expressionism”, as she adds excessive detail on all sorts of scenes and subjects, mostly rotating between linescapes, leaves, lace and ladies. But no matter the subject or scene, it’s the details that distinguish her work.
“My mind goes blank and my hands create the patterns.”
She started off in 2011 creating only black & white art, with pen & ink as her medium of choice. Hence, her artist brand name Details Ink, and the black & white signature look that can be found in almost all her early work.
Throughout her years in college, she transitioned from selling stationery products and shirts with her art, to creating murals and illustrations for brands like Heineken, Johnnie Walker, Mentos, Samsung, Toblerone and Google. Eventually, she found her sweet spot as a painter, with acrylic and ink as a medium.
With three solo exhibits to date and supportive clients and collectors who commission and purchase her work, her paintings have reached lovely homes not only around the Philippines, but also around the world. Kara hopes to sustain her slow and creative life, and to continue to make art for many decades to come.
